Heartache Implicated With Driving While Intoxicated
Going to a party and having a good time is an enjoyable part of life. The laughter and friendliness is part of what life is all about. Unfortunately, when liquor is served there are some who do not know when to quit. Unable to realize that they cannot make rational decision they get in their car to drive home. This Driving While Intoxicated often leads to tragic circumstance.
There are frightening statistics available concerning the results of a person driving under the influence of alcohol. It is estimated that, as the result of a drunk driver, someone is killed every 45 minutes in the United States. The person being killed could be the driver themselves, the driver of another car or an innocent bystander.
During the past several years several organizations have worked to inform people about the dangers of drunk driving. Among these are Mothers Against Drunk Driving AL-anon and Alcoholic Anonymous. These and other groups have made great strides in educating the public about the dangers of driving while intoxicated and have made some inroads on the problem.
Many efforts by officials have been made to try to control this unnecessary carnage to the innocent public. One of these has been to suspend the driver’s license of anyone convicted of this offense. This has not been very effective as it has been found that these people simply keep driving without one.
A person who has lost their driver’s license is no longer covered by their car insurance policy. This means if there is an accident there is no money to cover the ambulance, hospital and other expenses involved. Sometimes the other driver has an ‘uninsured motorist’ addition to their policy which will cover their own expenses but this is not always the case.
Unfortunately, drinking often begins at a very young age. Sometimes it begins in the home, sometimes at a group’s get together. As time goes on the confidence that a person ‘can handle it’ increases while, in reality it decreases. Confidence persuades the drinker to drink more as time goes on which can lead to a fatal car crash.
Newspaper and television reports regarding tragic accidents appear daily. One shakes their head on learning of an entire family being destroyed in an accident or a pedestrian killed because someone was driving drunk. These tragedies can be avoided if a person takes responsibility and avoids Driving While Intoxicated.
